The common especially in eastern Austria phrase »Grätzl« linguistically comes from »gereiz« what means as much as outline. Historically the term labelled former village communities, which were incorporated in cities. Colloquially, the term expresses the lifestyle of such a neighborhood, a micro-district.
As established structures Grätzl are subject to a continuous change. In this sense, there is no specific Grätzlform because this would correspond to a single snapshot. What can be observed is historic change, diversity, but also the connection to a neighbourly unity.
This alliance has interested us. Even though the contents of the form or the outline itself must remain arbitrarily, the alliance per se is never arbitrarily. This is the docking site of grätzlhotels corporate design: Based on the word mark a grid system was derived.
Eight points can be moved freely within the grid, thus allowing the continuous discharge of Grätzl-forms. The grid is so defined, that the shapes have corners and edges and thus reflect the character of maps (road trains).
Though these different contour shapes for each Grätzl are determinable, these forms should not stand side by side and each distinctively and completely unrelated. Finally, there is only one grätzlhotel. The individual form in its variability points in common with the word mark back to one and the same hotel.
