Our little guide to the best breakfast in the Schönbrunn quarter and around Meidlinger Markt.
Meidlinger Markt Stand 25/27, 1120 Vienna
So they do still exist: coffee houses and delicatessens in one! Anna Putz runs the delicatessen at stand 25/27 and ensures authenticity at Meidlinger Markt with regional products and organic quality. In addition to home-roasted coffee, the delicatessen also offers high-quality foods such as bread, handmade rolls and cheese specialties from premium and organic dairies.
Meidlinger Markt 6-8, 1120 Vienna
Milchbart has long since ceased to be an insider tip. Even though the big breakfast is only served on Saturdays and it is usually not known until the day before what will be on the menu tomorrow, this small but fine restaurant is always worth a visit. There's always something for a small breakfast during the week too, whether it's a filled bagel or a chocolate croissant, you'll never leave Milchbart with an empty stomach.
Vivenotgasse 8-12, 1120 Vienna
Zsam Zsam offers delicious oriental specialties. The coffee, which in addition to the classic Melange is also available as Turkish or Arabic coffee, is excellent and the weekend brunch in particular is an absolute must. From muttabal, a kind of melanzani puree, to fattoush, a salad with toasted bread, hungry travelers will find everything their heart desires.
Schönbrunnerstrasse 285, 1120 Vienna
Café Raimann is more classic. Melange, Einspänner and co. have been served at Raimann since 1914, as can easily be seen from the café patina. The menu offers the classics of coffee house cuisine and the pastries are also exceptionally good.
Meidlinger Markt, 1120 Vienna
The delightful MarctStandl is also located on Meidlinger Markt. Here, they have dedicated themselves entirely to TCM/5-element cuisine and you can see this on the menu, which is bursting with superfoods and seasonal dishes. Of course, the classic bread, butter, eggs and cheese are also on the menu, so there is something for everyone.
Schlosspark Schönbrunn, 1130 Vienna
If you like to have breakfast like the imperial family, Café Gloriette is the place to go. With a truly royal view over the city, the Melange tastes particularly good here and makes up for the fact that everything here is a little more expensive. Nevertheless, it's a nice café with a breathtaking location and view. Be sure to make a reservation!
